On May 19, DIGITIMES reported that in recent years, the IC design industry in Chinese Mainland has been active, and the number of related companies has continued to rise. Statistics from ICCAD show that the number of IC design companies in Chinese Mainland will reach 2810 in 2021, up 26.7% from 2218 in 2020. It is worth noting that in 2019, there were only 1780 local IC design companies, which shows a substantial growth in the past two years.

In 2021, a total of 7 IC design companies in Chinese Mainland will be listed on the Science and Technology Innovation Board, raising a total of 12.1 billion yuan. As of December 1, 2021, the total market value of these companies is 223 billion yuan. At present, there are 42 IC design companies listed on the Main Board, SME Board, GEM and Science and Technology Innovation Board. These companies have raised nearly 44.7 billion yuan, with a cumulative market value of 1.8 trillion yuan.

The report points out that the growth of the semiconductor industry in the future will rely more on electric vehicles (EV), 5G mobile phones, the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence chips. The IC application market and electronic machinery industry in Chinese Mainland have huge demand, which will promote the rapid development of IC design industry in Chinese Mainland.
